| Joined up Thinking on Housing Policy? In the last few days, the new Coalition Government has announced: - The scrapping of Regional Plans and associated housing targets. - The scrapping of housing density targets set out in PPS3. - The reclassification of back garden land, so that it is no longer classed “previously developed land” for policy purposes. - That they are introducing “a new age of aspiration for those struggling to secure a first foothold on the property ladder” (housing minister Grant Shapps addressing a RICS event on 8 June). One might ask how the first three announcements will help in achieving the aims set out in the fourth. Details are scarce at present, but we will deal with all these announcements, and their implications for house builders in more detail as soon as information becomes available. In the meantime, further information can be found at http://www.communities.gov.uk/news/planningandbuilding/1610193. For more information, please contact Tony Allen or Katie Lamb.
