DMH Stallard specialist presents technology and IP courses

Frank Jennings, an Associate in the DMH Stallard Technology Group and head of the firm’s Commercial team, presented the latest of his regular specialist courses for CLT in March 2008.

The two 3.5 hour long courses, entitled “Drafting IT Agreements - The Essential Guide” and “Drafting and Negotiating IP Licences” provide valuable guidance on how to negotiate, construct and draft technology and IP agreements.

The “Drafting IT Agreements” course looked at the fundamental elements of a range of common IT agreements, such as software and hardware development, distribution and licensing agreements and systems implementation agreements. The course examined real clauses and covered the main issues including scoping, managing, developing and implementing the project. The course also covered support & maintenance, service level agreements, warranties, indemnities and liability clauses. Additionally, Frank covered drafting tips, competition law, escrow and jargon busting.

The “Drafting and Negotiating IP Licences” course was aimed at commercial practitioners involved in this area, covering the fundamental aspects and up-to-date practice in granting intellectual property licences.  Like the IT course, this course examined real clauses and included drafting tips, competition law, warranties, indemnities and liability clauses. Additionally, it covered defining the grant of IP rights, revenue collection, management controls including approval rights.

The attendees ranged from in-house lawyers to private practice solicitors and – according to the feedback forms received – the attendees found the courses to be interesting and useful to their work.
