Michael Krantz is Head of the Waste and Renewable Resources Team and a Partner within the Planning Group. He has over thirty years of experience in advising the waste and minerals industry and more recently has advised on energy from waste projects.
Michael specialises in town and country planning and environmental law but with an intellectual property background as well. His work includes advising on planning applications, lawful development certificate applications, Section 106 planning agreements and the conduct of planning appeals, enforcement notice appeals, development plan objections, High Court appeals and judicial review.
His sector specialism is advising the minerals and waste industry including advice on environmental permits and on exemptions from the permitting regime. He advises generally on energy from waste (EfW) projects in which he is able to draw upon his almost unique combination of experience in planning and environmental work together with intellectual property work. Recent work includes EfW technology acquisition and IP licensing. Examples of his planning work include obtaining the first planning permission in Oxfordshire for an advanced thermal EfW facility, advising on successful applications for a new major golfing facility in Essex and obtaining on appeal permission for the redevelopment of a metals recycling facility in Hertfordshire.
