Retail and Leisure

Our specialist retail and leisure team acts for retailers, hoteliers, publicans and leisure providers in a variety of employment related matters.

We appreciate the importance of maintaining high work practices by staff who are employed in these sector. We regularly deal with matters arising from shortages of stock and cash.

We have been involved in a number of important cases in this area, such as claims arising out of the National Minimum Wage and the Working Time Regulations.

Examples of our work include:

  • Advising providers of FM services to local authorities in relation to leisure facilities operated on a ‘cost-plus’ basis;
  • Representing retailers who are facing claims from employees who already subject to criminal prosecution;
  • Representing hoteliers in relation to Tribunal claims for equal pay;
  • Representing hoteliers in relation to claims of unlawful discrimination on the grounds of race and sex;
  • Representing a fashion retailer in respect of a claim of victimisation arising from conduct during a previous employment;
  • Representing a retailer in relation to collective consultation obligation upon the acquisition of another business;
  • Defending claims of race discrimination by a senior director;
  • Defending claims of breach of contract and unfair dismissal by the Managing Director of a UK subsidiary
