Compulsory Purchase

We have significant experience of advising both public and private sector clients on compulsory purchase and compensation issues.

In conjunction with our Real Estate lawyers, we can provide multi-disciplinary advice and guidance for public authorities at all stages of the compulsory purchase process, from the drawing up of proposals and the drafting of the CPO to the successful acquisition and delivery of the scheme.

We can also advise land owners on the most advantageous strategy to adopt when faced with a compulsory purchase order. We successfully represented clients in objections to the Olympic (Lower Lea Valley Olympic and Legacy) Compulsory Purchase Order, resulting in exclusion of the site from the proposed area to be acquired.

Our specialist expertise include the following:

  • Preparation and presentation of objections to public inquiries
  • Coordination and instruction of expert witnesses and Counsel
  • Conducting negotiations with the acquiring authority to obtain appropriate amendments to the Order
  • Securing the maximum level of compensation, including representation in the Lands Tribunal
