Corporate Social Responsibility

At DMH Stallard, we care about our people, both inside and outside of our business.  We recognise that Corporate Social Responsibility is about supporting others, whether that is through charity or offering equal opportunities.  We are also committed to reducing the wider impact that we have on the environment and continually work to improve this.

Our chosen charities for 2019-20

All of our charitable activities are managed through the DMH Stallard Charitable Trust, which is led by an appointed CSR team and headed up by our CSR Partner, Vanessa Joll.  Senior members of DMH Stallard make a donation to the Trust once a year on 1 July.  These funds are then allocated to CSR activity and financial support is provided to our chosen charities for that year.

As we have multiple offices across three key geographical locations - London, Surrey and Sussex, this year we have chosen to support a charity for each of these areas.  We often choose a different charity each year but have been known to work with the same charities year on year.

In addition we have a long standing relationships with IntoUniversity, a charity working to tackle social mobility in young people and inspiring them to achieve more and St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley to whom we seek to provide ongoing support.

Our chosen charities for 2019/2020 are:

  • Action Medical Research for Children is our Sussex-based charity.  Since its foundation in the 1950s, the charity has been funding a number of medical breakthroughs that have subsequently saved the lives of babies and children.  One of many success stories includes early research funded by Action, which helped to develop the first oral polio vaccine, which eradicated new cases of this disease in the UK.
  • Cherry Trees a Surrey-based charity providing respite care to children living with disabilities and their families.  Their mission statement of “child first disability second” resonates throughout what they do, to provide exceptional home from home care in a fun, safe environment.
  • Future Dreams is based in London and was chosen by us for their one-to-one support and other resources to those suffering from breast cancer.  Their aim is to ensure that women are more breast cancer aware, particularly as suffers are being diagnosed at a younger age.

Financial support is just the beginning.  We also take part in a number of activities to make sure we work with our chosen charities to meet their objectives.  All employees are offered the opportunity to take two paid volunteering  days each year to facilitate and encourage this involvement.  These activities are not just for our people either clients and our professional contacts often get involved too. 

Pro Bono

As a business, DMH Stallard realises the importance of giving something back.  Many of our staff provide expertise and support to Boards of local philanthropic causes, charities and business networks. 

Minimising environmental impact

The recent publicity surrounding single use plastics and the damage they cause is a concern to us and we are continually reviewing our business practices to ensure we minimise all waste. 

We are also working hard to become a paperless firm, using electronic forms of communication where possible.  We have active recycling programmes at all of our offices, but our London office is participating in Land Securities’ unique occupier engagement programme, in conjunction with Planet Positive.  Through this programme we are saving energy, decreasing waste and recycling 80% of any waste that is created. 

We aim to ensure that suppliers we appoint use sustainable sources and encourage staff to take public transport where possible.  We offer them free season ticket loans for buses and trains as part of our standard benefits package, as well as the Cycle to Work scheme.
