EDB has completed the acquisition of 2ndQuadrant, creating the world’s largest dedicated provider of PostgreSQL products and solutions.

Founded in 2001, 2ndQuadrant includes the best known and largest number of PostgreSQL experts in the world. From their headquarters in Oxford (UK), they provide solutions across the globe for mission critical PostgreSQL databases, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, back-up, and failover management.

City law firm DMH Stallard LLP advised the sellers of 2ndQuadrant on the transaction. The DMH Stallard team was led by corporate partner Chris Simmons, with support from Rebecca Leeves (Commercial and IP Senior Associate), Jay Barnett (Commercial and IP Associate), Adam William  (Employment Partner) and Georgie Glover (Corporate Solicitor).

Chris Simmons, Partner at DMH Stallard, said:

“This deal brings together world renowned technical specialists from 2ndQuadrant and EDB into one team and will no doubt be considered a landmark moment for the PostgreSQL sector.

“My colleagues and I were delighted to work with 2ndQuadrant, their combined expertise with EDB will lead to exciting new market opportunities and accelerated innovation, all benefiting their customer base.”

The merged teams will operate under the leadership of EDB CEO Ed Boyajian. Database pioneer and 2ndQuadrant founder Simon Riggs will continue to play a prominent role as a PostgreSQL Fellow.

Simon Riggs said:

“I’d like to thank Chris for his diligence, insight, cheerfulness and calm aplomb. Those personal qualities were essential in securing a demanding transaction, as well as his experience and knowledge.”

The acquisition will see over 500 employees based across headquarters in Bedford, Massachusetts and offices in Europe and Asia, including the UK, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, India, Japan, Korea, Australia, and Singapore.”
