Good Divorce Week 2018 - time for a change?

27 Nov 2018

Did you know that this week is “Good Divorce Week 2018”?

No, that doesn’t mean that Black Friday or Cyber Monday special deals have been extended and applied to divorce settlements.  What it does mean is that family law solicitors across the country are supporting the Good Divorce Week campaign established by Resolution, the national organisation of family lawyers and professionals who promote a constructive, non-confrontational approach to family law matters.

The Good Divorce Week campaign focuses on ways in which parents can separate in a way that reduces conflict, and thus lessen the impact it can have on children; a current YouGov poll shows that 79% of the population agree that conflict from divorce or separation can have a negative impact on a child’s mental health.

Parents and professionals are also hampered by the current law which requires many divorcing couples to assign blame.  The government has made a promise in the past to introduce no fault divorce at the earliest possible opportunity; delivery on that promise needs to come sooner rather than later.

The DMH Stallard Family law team are members of Resolution and committed to reducing conflict and agreeing to a non-confrontational way of working that puts the best interests of children first. Today, I’ve written to our local MP to ask him to get on board and amend the laws to help us achieve these goals.

Our experienced team of divorce solcitors have a wealth of experience and expertise in complex financial disputes and child law matters, providing bespoke advice to domestic and international clients. We take a commercial and pragmatic approach to reaching negotiated settlements and will find creative solutions to complex and emotional family breakdowns. If a reasonable settlement can be reached, we will find it.
