St John Ambulance ‘superstar volunteer’ is Resident of the Month

A woman who has given 42 years voluntary service to St John Ambulance has been named the Horsham Resident of the Month for August.

Cynthia White signed up for first aid courses run by St John Ambulance in 1980 after her son suffered a convulsion.

Little did she know then that she was about to embark on over four decades of dedicated service to the charity, helping the sick and injured at hundreds of events across East and West Sussex.

Cynthia said:

“I still thoroughly enjoy being part of St John Ambulance and have been lucky to meet so many wonderful people, both within the organisation and outside of it.

“I’ve held several different roles over the years, most recently as a Unit Manager and while I’m stepping back from that position, I have no plans to stop volunteering alongside my colleagues.

“And for anyone interested in volunteering, I wouldn’t hesitate to encourage them to find out more about what St John Ambulance do.”

In addition to the countless sporting and other public events Cynthia has been present at, including 20 years of attendance at Brighton & Hove Albion FC home fixtures, she’s also rarely missed any of the weekly Tuesday evening St John Ambulance training sessions – over 2,100 since 1980.

Organised by the West Sussex County Times and Horsham-based solicitors DMH Stallard, the Resident of the Month Award recognises unsung heroes who deserve recognition for their outstanding contribution to society.

Nigel Winter, Partner at DMH Stallard in the Family team, said:

“I have no hesitation describing Cynthia as a superstar volunteer and someone that not only the St Ambulance Service can be justly proud, but also everyone in Horsham.

“Come rain or shine, Cynthia has been on duty ready to come to the aid of anyone needing help.

“I was delighted to meet her and present her with a Resident of the Month certificate.”

As part of her award, Cynthia will receive a complimentary meal for two at a local restaurant.

Our commercial tenant wants to be in the property before a lease is agreed – what should we do?

Our advice is clear – use the tenant’s keenness as the reason to agree the lease more quickly, and do not let your tenant into occupation on a handshake and promise to agree the lease next week.
