Housing associations - private sector or public sector?

30 Nov 2015

The Office for National Statistics reclassified English Housing Associations as “public non-financial corporations” on 30 October 2015. In response, the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) has said it will pursue deregulation of the housing sector and will “bring forward measures that seek to allow housing associations to become private sector bodies again as soon as possible”.

This is an interesting time for housing associations as there is already a good deal of potential change in the sector given the UK Government’s legislative proposals. We will be reporting further on this in due course.

Our team dealing with housing associations has been expanded as Miles Eckersley and Roger Yates have joined us. Please contact them or your usual contact at DMH Stallard for further information on housing association matters.
