DMH Stallard advised South-East family farming company on its acquisition of a fellow farming family business

08 Aug 2016

DMH Stallard recently advised a local South East farming business on their first acquisition, being that of a fellow farming company.

Abigail Owen, Corporate Partner, led the corporate team and Anne Milne, Commercial Property Partner, led the property team on the acquisition.

This was an unusual transaction, steeped in history. It involved two long established farming families who have worked with each other for centuries. The buyer has farmed the land which was the subject of the acquisition since the 1800s and the sellers had owned and farmed the land since the 1700s.

Commenting on the transaction, Abigail Owen said “We are very pleased to have worked on this transaction, the families have been farming the land for many centuries and this was the perfect opportunity for growth and diversification. We wish them every success in their future ventures.”

One of the directors, on behalf of the buyer said: “As a long standing client of DMH Stallard we had every faith in them. Their appreciation of the deeply personal nature of this transaction between the two farming families enabled the acquisition to complete successfully with a true understanding of the commercial and personal nature of this matter.”

The accountants acting on the transaction were Chavereys. The sellers were advised by Kent-based firm Thomson Snell & Passmore.
