In the past couple of days, it has been reported that the Government is expected to announce its decision as to whether they support runway expansion at either Gatwick or Heathrow airport very soon. Whatever the decision, it seems Gatwick Airport is intent on providing a second runway and will press ahead with their plans to do so. It is estimated there will be a further 120,000 jobs created by Gatwick’s expansion, the impact of this on numerous Local Planning Authorities is far reaching, potentially exhausting and no doubt unwelcome. Each LPA will need to revisit and review numerous adopted policies and targets (housing, employment, Green Belt to name a few), and begin the intense and lengthy process of local plan examination once again.
