Here are some of the facts about the working environment that emerged during our Strategic Employment Law Conference 2015:

1. Job satisfaction levels in the UK have remained broadly unchanged since 1992. British Household Panel Survey/Institute for Employment Studies.

2. The recorded incidence of work-related stress has been dropping dramatically since 2001. Health & Safety Executive.

3. Around 4.6m people in the UK are self-employed, the highest level since records began. Office for National Statistics.

4. Between 1980 and 2011 the length of the average UK working week fell by around 2 hours. Labour Force Survey/Institute for Employment Studies.

5. By 2025, Generation Y will make up 75% of the workforce globally. Forbes.com.

6. Although the percentage of UK employees in temporary jobs is increasing, it is still below the level it was in 1997. Labour Force Survey/Institute for Employment Studies.

7. Over 50% of managers believe employee performance levels would not change if their organisation’s Learning and Development function was eliminated. Corporate Leadership Council.

8. Of the roughly 6,000 prospective Employment Tribunal claims that enter ACAS pre-claim conciliation each month, 58% neither settle nor progress to a full hearing. ACAS.
