High profile appointment at DMH Stallard

15 Apr 2016

Renowned intellectual property (IP) and technology solicitor James Martin has joined top 100 law firm DMH Stallard. James was previously a Director at City law firm, Fieldfisher.

James’ track record in IP law has made him a regular speaker, lecturer and contributor in the media. He has acted in numerous high profile cases, advising on trade marks, designs, copyright, patents, confidential information and domain name disputes. He works with companies of all sizes in brand protection and anti-counterfeiting programmes and has acted on many medium to large scale IP infringement actions for both claimants and defendants.

In one of the biggest and now leading trade secrets case ever litigated in the UK, James has developed particular expertise in the protection of confidential information (trade secrets) acting for Vestergaard Frandsen, the manufacturer of long lasting insecticidal mosquito nets in the global fight against malaria.

Tim Ashdown, Senior Litigation Partner at DMH Stallard, said:

“This is a really exciting appointment and one that reflects our ever increasing presence in the market in London and across the south east.

“James possesses a calibre of experience that is hard to match. His arrival demonstrates that our ambition to continue growing and attracting the very best people in the UK law sector is as strong as ever.”

He is also well known internationally through his work on the coordination of cross-border litigation involving multiple jurisdictions across Europe, North America and Asia.

With extensive knowledge of the Indian commercial and legal landscape, James regularly assists UK and European businesses entering India in their commercial and intellectual property matters, as well as Indian businesses investing in and protecting their intellectual property in the UK.

James said:

“It is an incredibly exciting time to be joining DMH Stallard following the firm’s recent mergers in both Guildford and London.

“DMH Stallard is already recognised as a leading firm for IP in the South East and, with the importance of IP continually on the rise for businesses of all shapes and sizes as the digital economy grows, I look forward to working with my new colleagues across the offices in building upon the firm’s excellent reputation and to ensure DMH Stallard is recognised as a go-to firm for intellectual property protection and enforcement advice.”
