According to Mind, the mental health charity, 1 in 4 people in the UK will suffer a mental health problem each year. For this reason, Search along with Mind will host a series of workshops to educate employers on how to manage mental health in the workplace.
Associate Trainers from Mind will guide attendees through the essential and practical aspects of how to empathetically manage mental health in a work environment, whilst raising awareness of issues regarding mental health and wellbeing.
Mind will walk through the dynamics of mental wellbeing in a working environment, the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees, the impact of specific mental health conditions on working practices, how to communicate to staff and how to help employees build mental resilience.
Debbie Caswell, Search Managing Director for England, said: “With recent statistics suggesting that a significant proportion of employees will experience symptoms of poor mental health at some point in their careers, as an employer, we have a duty of care to help and support them.
“It is our hope that attendees recognise the importance of appropriately managing mental health, not only for optimal performance and engagement within their organisations, but to consider and treat mental health in the same way as we do physical health, and challenge the stigma associated with it.”
There will be six events running across England. The Sussex event will be held on Thursday 6th April at The Crowne Plaza, Gatwick Airport and will be further supported by Top 100 law firm DMH Stallard. Employment Partner, Greg Burgess, will be providing practical advice for employers and sharing real-life examples of how Tribunals deal with claims relating to mental health at work.
Greg Burgess said: “Dealing with employees suffering from mental health conditions is notoriously challenging for employers. There is often confusion in organisations about how best to support those who need help, and how far an employer’s obligations go. Employers who do get to grips with the challenges and potential pitfalls will be well placed to deal positively and compassionately with employees who are struggling with their mental wellbeing.”
Upon concluding the seminar, employers will then have the opportunity to ask questions in relation to the modules, thus gaining further insight into how they can take steps towards building and maintaining mentally resilient workplaces.
