DMH Stallard advises building specialist on sale to SOCOTEC

The SOCOTEC Group has acquired Hutton + Rostron (H + R), a leading UK specialist in building surveys.

With offices in Surrey, Nottinghamshire, Oxford and Greater Manchester, H+R’s expertise and experience includes historic and contemporary buildings, undertaking damp and timber surveys, advice on architectural conservation, building pathology and dry rot surveys.

SOCOTEC operates across Europe and the United States and is a leading provider in the UK of testing, inspection and compliance services.

Law firm DMH Stallard advised H+R on the sale.

James and Tim Hutton of H+R said:

“We are incredibly proud of the business we have built over the years, and of the exceptional colleagues who have helped make H + R a leading specialist in its field.

Taking the decision to sell a business is never easy, especially when that business has been in the family for decades.

However, we knew that in order for H+R to reach its full potential, new ownership and strategic direction was required – and what better partner to deliver this than SOCOTEC, an international player with the resources to take the company to the next level.”

Helen Mead and Josie Appleyard, partners in the corporate team at DMH Stallard, advised H+R.

Helen said:

“As James and Tim have reflected, selling a family business does often create a mix of emotions, but in order to fulfil the maximum potential for growth and future success, finding a partner that can facilitate those ambitions is the best route to take.”

H+R corporate finance advisers were BCMS.
