David is a litigation partner specialising in commercial disputes, with particular depth in professional negligence claims against solicitors, surveyors, accountants, will writers and other professional advisers. He also advises on commercial fraud, lender-related disputes, recoveries, and wider financial and finance-related disputes.

David’s approach combines rigorous preparation with practical, commercial judgement. He is known for forensic approach, testing the evidence and building a strategy that is focused on impact, what can be achieved, how quickly, and at what cost. Clients value his direct, honest advice and his ability to stay calm under pressure while driving matters forward.

Over more than three decades in practice, David has developed a robust financial disputes practice, with a particular focus on lender-oriented litigation, professional negligence and fraud claims. He takes a hands-on role in shaping the case theory, marshalling the evidence and keeping the team aligned to a clear plan and timetable. He also brings the curiosity and love of learning needed to navigate complex disputes, while maintaining the social intelligence to guide clients through difficult decisions with empathy as well as confidence.

David has previously been recognised as a leading litigator by Chambers and Legal 500, as well as being ranked as a Top Recommended Lawyer in Spears500.

David qualified as a solicitor in 1991 and joined DMH Stallard in 2025. He works primarily in our Brighton office but also collaborates closely with colleagues in our other locations including GatwickGuildford and London.
