Advises on a range of commercial and personal disputes, with a particular focus on insolvency and contentious probate.

Helen’s specialises in contractual and director/shareholder disputes, professional negligence actions, contentious probate and Inheritance Act claims. Helen also has a particular specialism in insolvency and has acted in both corporate and personal insolvencies, and for insolvency practitioners, directors of insolvent companies and petitioning creditors.

Helen works primarily in our London office but also collaborates closely with colleagues in our other locations.

Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Helen studied law and french law, and also worked for several years for a global technology brand. As a result, Helen combines a practical and commercial approach with succinct advice.

Helen also has wide experience of mediation and other forms of ADR.

Work highlights

ESTATE PROCEEDINGS

Acting for the executor of a high net worth estate, which comprised several sets of proceedings including a probate claim to establish the veracity of the deceased’s will, defending two Inheritance Act claims made against the estate and a property tribunal claim regarding a disputed trust document.


PROFESSIONAL NEGLIGENCE

Acted for an energy company registered in Monaco in a dispute over the sale of over $5m worth of allegedly contaminated oil.


BANKRUPTCY

Acted for a trustee in bankruptcy in connection with the successful enforcement of a consent order, which included possession proceedings, multiple applications to set aside the consent order and a civil restraint order against a vexatious and serial litigant in person.


TRUSTS OF LAND AND TRUSTEES ACT

Acting for an individual in a claim for the sale and division of sale proceeds of a residential property, under the Trusts of Land and Trustees Act 1996.


BANKRUPTCY

Acted for a trustee in bankruptcy in connection with setting aside various transactions at an undervalue, preferences, and/or transactions defrauding creditors. The case also involved an offshore family trust and allegations of sham declarations of trust.


INHERITANCE ACT CLAIM

Acting in connection with an Inheritance Act claim based on the cohabitation with, and maintenance by, the deceased.


INSOLVENCY ACT CLAIM

Acting for a local authority in a claim against a former director/shareholder pursuant to ss 216 and 217 Insolvency Act 1986, involving prohibited company names of ‘phoenix’ companies.
