Angela and Dougie Snape receiving the Resident of the Month award For Guildford, September 2024, presented by Cathryn Culverhouse of DMH Stallard

British Legion stalwarts are residents of the month

A couple, who have volunteered for the Royal British Legion for over 30 years, have been named joint winners of the Guildford Resident of the Month.

Angela and Dougie Snape have undertaken numerous roles over the years, helping the much-loved institution to raise vital funds for ex-service personnel and their families.

Organised by the Surrey Advertiser and sponsored by Guildford solicitors DMH Stallard, the Resident of the Month Award recognises people in the community for their outstanding contributions to society.

Cathryn Culverhouse is a partner in the contentious probate team at DMH Stallard and met Angela and Dougie this week to present them with a special certificate.

Cathryn said:

“It is an honour to meet such selfless people who are making a huge contribution to the incredible work of the Royal British Legion.

The poppy appeal relies on volunteers, and I know that Angela and Dougie have always gone the extra mile to raise as much money as possible for former service men and women.”

With 180,000 members and 110,000 volunteers, the Royal British Legion has been supporting the armed forces community since 1921.

Gary Wood, Poppy Appeal Manager at the Royal British Legion, said:

“Angela and Dougie have supported the Royal British Legion so much throughout the year and especially me in my first year as Poppy Appeal Manager.

They are people who you know will be there to help at events and have been doing so for decades.  Their support, knowledge and insightfulness are invaluable to me. I am thankful they are part of my team.”
