A significant impact of Covid-19 on the world of work has been the increase in employees working from abroad. In addition, Brexit has altered the landscape on which UK businesses win and deliver contracts in other European countries.
In this session you will hear from the global mobility experts from Menzies and DMH Stallard, and benefit from their joint experience of how to identify and navigate key legal and tax issues when doing business outside the UK post-brexit.
Immigration: You will hear about the types of issues that can arise from working abroad either temporarily or permanently, and of the potential impact this could have on an intended subsequent return to the UK. The team will also explore the requirements for third country nationals (including British/non-Irish nationals) when delivering services in to Europe post-Brexit.
Business tax: Having employees located in another country, or delivering on contracts with overseas customers, can give rise to local tax implications. Taxing rights will depend on factors such as the nature of work being performed, the duration of the arrangements and relevant tax treaty provisions. We will consider what issues UK businesses need to be aware of when deploying staff overseas and winning contracts with international customers.
Global employment tax and social security: The rising trend of global remote working presents numerous challenges and opportunities to the employer. You will hear about the compliance aspects from an employment tax and social security perspective and get an understanding of the numerous issues that the employer needs to be aware of in order to mitigate the risks and reap the benefits of having a global virtual workforce in a post pandemic world.
