The merger is described by St Barnabas as a move that ‘aims to create a stronger, more sustainable and comprehensive hospice care organisation that is committed to delivering outstanding patient care’.
The merger creates one of the biggest groups in the hospice sector and in an increasingly complex world of care support and health commissioning, provides greater sustainability for both organisations and the people they care for.
DMH Stallard and Girlings advised St Barnabas on the merger with Martlets.
Consultant Solicitor Caroline Armitage, Head of Charities at Girlings Solicitors and an expert in Third Sector mergers and acquisitions, advised St Barnabas throughout the merger, with Jonathan Grant, Head of Corporate at DMH Stallard, supported by Ben Price (property) and Simon Bellm (employment).
Jonathan Grant said:
“We are delighted to support St Barnabas on this key project, working with Caroline and her team at Girlings solicitors. I would also like to applaud the professionalism and commitment of the management teams of St Barnabas and Martlets, along with the trustee boards of both hospice charities.
“The success of this merger demonstrates how commercial law firms can work with third sector/charities specialists, to deliver key strategic projects to a tight timetable. The hospice sector is vital to our community and we are delighted to be able support and strengthen it.”
Caroline Armitage of Girlings commented:
“The success of this merger demonstrates Girlings Solicitors’ ability to project its charity expertise beyond our Kentish heartland and into Sussex, with some parts of the St Barnabas group operating as far afield as Hampshire. Our involvement also showcased the potential of Girlings Solicitors to collaborate constructively with other law firms to achieve the best outcome for our clients.”
DMH Stallard looks forward to seeing how the merger will enable St Barnabas and Martlets to move closer towards their stated goal of creating a more efficient and sustainable service for their patients and their families.
